The absolutely wonderful news is the Creator of the Universe thought about you and made great plans for you, before He even made the earth.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, that we should be holy and blameless before him.” (Ephesians 1:3-4)
These are but two of hundreds of Biblical references to God’s heart to bless us in every possible way (“every spiritual blessing”). And out of that loving and gracious heart He thought deeply about you and made plans for you before He created our world. You are no accident; you are no mistake. The most brilliant mind in existence, out of a heart of pure love and goodness decided you should live and make a significant difference in His world.
You Have a Holy Calling from God Himself
“who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.” (2 Timothy 1:9)
I know it is easy for me to think that some people have a special calling from God; and the rest of us, if we have a “calling” at all, are just ordinary. But the Apostle Paul, who had insights about life, Jesus, and God previously hidden wrote that ALL of us have a “holy calling.” Some have a more public calling and not everyone has the same measure of influence in the world, but ALL of us have a special, significant, and yes holy calling from God Himself.
This holy calling from God is not given to you or me because we are more talented or committed or more sincere than others. This passage tells us that the plans God has for us are based on two things:
- His own purpose. God has clear plans and purposes (found throughout the Bible) for the earth and every single person on it. Despite giving people the ability to follow His directives or not; He will eventually fulfill His purposes.
- His grace. Grace has several meanings but here it means that we did not earn being saved from sin and its consequences and we did not earn God’s plans for us. God gave us redemption and calling as a gift to be received; not something we worked for.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us that God is so smart and powerful that even as He was preparing the good works He would have you do; He was giving you the right gifts and abilities to do your holy calling. And not only that, He wired you so that you would find great joy and meaning in doing your part. It is a win-win-win situation if we set our hearts on Him and His priorities.
The One who has blessed you with every spiritual blessing in Christ, holding nothing back, is the One who has created to find great fulfillment and joy in doing your holy calling.
